Abstract
One of the most important reasons for the loss of the First World War by the Ottoman State is the failure of the Palestine-Syrian Front. This front was opened with the name of "Channel Front" and later it was named "Sina-Palestine-Syrian Front". The defeat of the Channel Operation, which was held twice in February 1915 and August 1916, led the British to advance to the Palestine Front dominated by the Sinai Peninsula. After the defeat of the British in March and April 1917 in the First and Second Gaza War, they entered a period of intensive preparations and a general offensive was prepared. Ottoman General Staff did not evaluate this situation well and failed to take the necessary precautions to ensure a balance of power against the British. The last four months of disputes with the rescue of Baghdad, which had been lost on March 11, 1917, have caused the collapse of the Palestine front. When the “Yıldırım (The Thunderbolt) Army Groups that was prepared around Aleppo to rescue Baghdad, under the command of the German General Falkenhayn, came to the Sinai-Palestine front, it was too late to secure the Gaza and Jerusalem. In this case, the loss of Palestine and Syrian lands of the Ottoman Empire is a great way to neglect the Palestine front in order to save Baghdad. The British general assault that started by the advance of the Egyptian Expeditionary Force under the command of General Allenby towards Palestine in the fall of 1917 and ended with the loss of Amman, Damascus, Beirut and Aleppo until the signing of the Mondros Armistice dated 30 October 1918. The study began with the Third Gaza Battle on 31 October 1917, which resulted in the loss of Beersheba-Gaza and Jerusalem, and continues with the political and military events that took place until October 26, 1918, the date on which the Ottoman Army was drawn to the north of Aleppo. The study will focus on the developments that cause this great loss. The main source of the study aimed at examining the Palestine-Syrian Front, the last front of the Ottoman Empire in World War I, was the documents provided by the General Staff (ATASE) Archives and the British National Archives.
