Bu çalışmada Eskişehir’in Osmanlı dönemindeki demografik yapısı genelinde 1927 nüfus sayımı özelindeki veriler değerlendirilmiştir. Eskişehir ve ilçelerinin nüfus özellikleri ele alınmış, demografik yapısı açıklanmaya çalışılmıştır. Veriler doğrultusunda Eskişehir nüfusunun medeni hal durumu, yaş grupları, anadil durumu, tabiiyet, yerel doğum, okuma bilen oranı ile mesleki faaliyet alanları, engel durumu ve dini mensubiyet oranları sistematik bir şekilde incelenmiştir.
Abstract
Population is one of the basic sources of wealth of countries. For the early years of the Turkish Republic the data on the quality and quantity of the population is available, but it is not enough for a comprehensive evaluation. Because the long period of war starting with Balkan Wars and ending with the Turkish War of Independence between 1912-1923 gave rise to the shrinkage of the boundaries and a decrease of the population of the country. The demography of the country further changed after the population exchange with Greece. These developments changed the population figures inherited from Ottoman period. The new Turkish Republic wanted to carry out a census with which modern methods were used in order to better evaluate the quality and quantity of the country's population, to use the country's economic resources more efficiently and to serve the public better. But in advance, as part of this process, the General Directorate of Statistics was founded in 1926 and a new law on the implementation of the censuses throughout the country (Umûm Tâhrir-i Nüfus İcrâsı Hakkında Kanun) was introduced. Afterwards, on October 28 of the 1927, the first official census of the Turkish Republic was held. The figures attained at the end of the census was more detailed than the previous ones. This paper examines the figures of the census of 1927 within the framework of former (Ottoman) demographic structure. In this study, the figures belonging to the towns of the city were also taken into consideration. In the light of the findings of the research, the marital status of the inhabitants of Eskişehir, their age-groups, their state of citizenship, religion and disability, the rate of illiteracy, the use of mother language, local births and the professional differentiation were analyzed with a systematic method.
