HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT OF THE BUILDING MATERIALS AND ITS EFFECTS ON ARCHITECTURE

Özet

Gelişen teknolojiler ile istenilen malzeme üretiminin sağlanması mimarlıkta yapı malzeme çeşitlerini artırmıştır. Fizik ve organik kimya bilimlerindeki gelişmelerle sürekli kendisini yenileyen malzeme bilimi, 21. yüzyıl ile birlikte başlayan dijital dönüşümde yeniden sorgulanmaya başlanmıştır. Bu çalışmanın çıkış noktasını, yapı malzemelerindeki teknolojik gelişim ile mimari ürün arasındaki bu dikkat çekici etkileşim oluşturmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın amacı teknolojik ilerleme sürecinde yapı malzemeleri alanındaki olmuş ve olabilecek yeniliklere bir bakış açısı kazandırmaktır. Bu amaçla çalışma kapsamında yapı malzemelerinin tarih içerisindeki gelişiminin mimariye yansımaları, önemli bilimsel olayları ve mimari eşikleri de belirtecek bir kronolojik dizim ile açıklanmıştır. Çalışma sonuçlarının yeni malzeme üretim sürecinde geçmişte kullanılan bazı malzemelerin gelişiminin ve üstün özelliklerinin tanınmasına katkı sağlaması, gelecekte üretilecek malzemelerin gelişimine ışık tutulması hedeflenmektedir. Bu çalışma ile aynı zamanda gelecekte yapılacak araştırmalar için bir altlık oluşturulması amaçlanmaktadır.

Abstract

Providing the desired material production with the developing technologies has increased the variety of building materials in architecture. Materials science, which constantly renews itself with developments in physics and organic chemistry sciences, has started to be questioned again in the digital transformation that started with the 21st century. The starting point of this study is this remarkable interaction between the technological development in building materials and the architectural product. The aim of this study is to gain a perspective on the innovations that have been and may be in the field of building materials in the process of technological progress. For this purpose, within the scope of the study, the reflections of the development of building materials in history on architecture are explained with a chronological sequence that will also indicate important scientific events and architectural thresholds. It is aimed that the results of the study will contribute to the recognition of the development and superior properties of some materials used in the past in the new material production process, and to shed light on the development of the materials to be produced in the future. With this study, it is also aimed to create a base for future research.
