Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the patient satisfaction after posterior sacropexia. MATERIALS-METHODS: From 2002 to 2004, 48 patients underwent posterior IVS technique of sacropexia. The results of 35 patients were analyzed retrospectively. RESULTS: Median age of patients was 67 years (34 - 83). 74% of the patients had a previous hysterectomy and 20% of the patients had two or more corrections of the vaginal wall. The mean duration of operation was 45 minutes. The indications were enterocele (rectocele) in 64%, (sub)- total uterine prolapsus in 37%, urge incontinence in 34%, recurrent urinary infections in 17%, and defecation problems in 17% of the patients. The control examinations revealed a satisfaction rate of approximately 70%. The best results were achieved by patients suffering from prolaps of the posterior vaginal wall (85%). The satisfaction quotient by recurrent urinary tract infection was approximately 75%. In cases with a defecation problem the satisfaction quotient at 70%. The greatest variance of satisfaction was reported in cases of urge incontinence and ranged between 0 and 90%. CONCLUSION: posterior IVS technique is a useful method in repairing of posterior vaginal defects with high patient satisfaction.
