Bulgular: Yetmiş beş katılımcının %59’u erkek, %41’i kadındı. Katılımcıların yaş ortalaması 31,53’dü. Katılımcılar yaz mevsiminde (%44) ve denizkenarı bölgelerdeki (%44) kongrelere katılımı tercih ettiklerini belirtti. Kongre katılımındaki öncelikli amaçlar sırasıyla ”konusunda uzman kişileri dinlemek“ (%40) ve ”yeni gelişmeleri takip etmek (%28) olarak tespit edildi.Sonuç: Kongrelere katılım; sosyodemografik özellikler, maddi durum-maliyet, kongre katılım amaçları, kongre destinasyonu, süresi ve düzenlendiği mevsim gibi faktörlerden etkilenir. Kongre katılımında öncelikli amaçlar sırasıyla ”konusunda uzman kişileri dinlemek” ve “yeni gelişmeleri takip etmek” tir. Kongre katılımına maddi destek için “yıllık belirli sayıda yayın yapmak” kriter olabilir. Gelir düzeyi-kongre katılımı arasında anlamlı ilişki yoktur. (JAEM 2013; 12: 211-4)

Abstract

Objective: The purpose of this study is to identify the criteria of participantsfor taking part in congresses in the field of emergency medicine and to revealthe differences in these criteria on the basis of demographic data.Material and Methods: The study is based on the questionnaires with 19predetermined questions that were asked to participants. With the question-naire, sociodemographic characteristics and field of profession were inquiredinto as well as priorities for attending a congress, the effect of the season andlocation of the congress on participation. Results: Of the 75 participants, 59% were male and 41% were female. Themean age of the participants was 31.53 years. Participants prefer to go to con-gresses in the summer (44%) and in the seaside region (44%). The primary ob-jectives for participating in a congress are “hearing persons who are experts in their subjects”(40%) and “following new developments”(28%), respectively. Conclusion: Participation in congresses is affected by factors such as so-ciodemographic characteristics, income status-cost, purposes for attendingthe congress, the destination and length of the congress and the season inwhich it was organized. The primary objectives for participating in a congressare “hearing persons who are experts in their subjects” and “following new de- velopments”, in that order. ”A certain number of publications per year” may bea criterion for financial support for participation in a congress. There is no sig-nificant relationship between income level and participation in congresses.(JAEM 2013; 12: 211-4)
