Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the effect of using station technique to teach biodiversity topic on students' academic achievement. The research was carried out according to the pretest and posttest control group quasi-experimental design. The sample consisted of 61 students; 17 girls and 14 boys in the experimental and 14 girls and 16 boys in control group. The data collection tool which is Biodiversity and Protection Achievement Test was developed by the researchers. The stations technique was applied on experimental group and traditional instructions were used on control group for four weeks. To measure achievement of both groups, the test of achievement contending the same questions was administered. The results for science reasoning test and pretest of achievement scores may be interpreted as experimental and control groups’ achievement levels to be equal before the study. Increased academic achievement of the students were due to differences between pretest and posttest scores of both groups; but when the difference of experimental and control groups’ academic achievement was examined according to the posttest scores, station technique was more successful than traditional instructions (p<.05). In conclusion, stations technique help increase student success and contribute to higher achievement scores in exams.
