Abstract

The aims of the study were to evaluate success of double artificial insemination versus single based on visual oestrus detection and effects on conception rates. In the study, 121 adult cows, that calved minimum one time, aged 2,5-10 years old, were used and allocated either control (n=61) or trial (n=60) groups, randomly. The cows of the control and trial groups were subjected single and double artificial insemination by 24-30 hs apart in natural oestrus terms by am/pm timing rules, with considering visual oestrus symptoms, respectively. The repeated cows were inseminated in the second oestrus as the same on based previously. After 70 days last insemination, pregnancy rates were determined rectally. The conception rates of the trial and control group in the first oestrus and second oestrus were 81,66 and 57,37 and 63,63 and 53,84, %, respectively. The conception rates of in the first oestrus were statistically different between in the trial and control groups (P<0,05). In conclusion, it is said that; the double insemination with 24 hs apart can tolerate some errors on timing of artificial inseminations those applied in terms of natural oestrus artificially in adult cows, this type of insemination can put into practice in cow with repeat breeder, long oestrus or delayed ovulastion as some functional infertility forms at least.
