Abstract

This study was carried out to create predictive distribution maps of some physical soil properties in Akdağ mountain district from Simav-Kütahya region. To build the distribution models of soil properties, regression tree technique (RTT) was employed. RTT models of soil lime content at 10-30 cm, soil depth and general soil stoniness couldn’t be built. Among the obtained tree models, according to the results of both of training (ta) and testing (tb) sets, the response variables belonging to highest explained variance (R2) values are Clay2 (R2(ta)=0.384, R2(tb)=0.313), Sand2 (R2(ta)=0.370, R2(tb)=0.280), Clay1 (R2(ta)=0.495, R2(tb)=0.236) and Sand1 (R2(ta)=0.404, R2(tb)=0.233) respectively. Besides mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) values of all those soil variables were less than 50 which means acceptable forecast accuracy. The obtained tree models of the other response data have low training and in particular testing R2 values. The distribution models obtained from RTT were visualized across the study area. Thus the distribution maps of the soil properties were provided.
