Abstract
This study was carried out to determine the effects of different pre-treatment on seed germination and to overcome dormancy in Tilia dasystyla Steven subsp. caucasica (V.Engl.) Pigott seeds. The study aimed to determine the best method for breaking dormancy and guide the applicants for seedling production. The seeds were collected in 2015 three times with approximately 15-days intervals from natural linden (Tilia) individuals in the Solaklı basin, Of district in Trabzon. Sowings were applied in containers according to a completely randomised design in the field of Directorate of Eastern Black Sea Forestry Research Institute. Several germination treatments were applied in order to break dormancy. The treatments were (1) soaking in water (2) both warm and cold stratification, (3) GA3 application (4) and sulphuric acid scarification. Besides, freshly gathered seeds (untreated) were sown without any treatment in the fall. This research showed that the highest germination percentage was obtained from seeds sown without any treatment in the fall and seeds collected at third collection time (39%) . In this study, the seeds collected at the 3rd collection time germinated in the stratification medium. The highest germination percentage (60%) in the stratification medium has obtained from the seeds subjected to sulfuric acid treatment + 2000 ppm GA3 + 8 weeks warm and 12 weeks cold stratification as pre-treatment.
