Abstract
Aim: Hepatitis A which is seen as an endemic disease all over the world is an important health problem in our country. Because the unicteric and asymptomatic form is see more often and the report of this disease is not made properly, the incidence of Hepatitis-A can not be determined exactly. In our study, we intended to investigate the prevalence of hepatitis A in children whose age were between 2 and 14 at Üsküdar-Kadıköy region in Istanbul and social-economical status of this group. Method: 234 children admitted at our clinic between March 1999 and June 2000 were included in this study and social-economical status and positivity of anti-HAV IgG were investigated. Results: Anti-HAV IgG levels were positive in 78 cases (%33). %15.6 of the patients (12cases) were in pre-school age and %84.4 of them ( 66 cases) were in school age. Conclusion: We found that when the education level increased and economic status of the parents rised, the decrease in the positivity rate of anti-HAV IgG of children were found statistically significant.
