Abstract

Vertebral artery dissection is extremely rare among the etiologies of acute arterial ischemic stroke in childhood. Most patients diagnosed with stroke secondary to dissection have a history of head and neck trauma. However, most of the time, patients may not give trauma anamnesis. In this article, we present a 9-year-old male patient with posterior ischemic stroke symptoms, who did not give trauma anamnesis at the first evaluation and was diagnosed as vertebral artery dissection. In patients with the symptoms of vertebrobasillar insufficiency, traumatic injuries should be kept in mind and radiological examinations should be planned for vertebral artery dissection, even if it cannot be learned in the history
