Özet

Gestus, Bertolt Brecht (1898-1956) tarafından kuramlaştırılan epik tiyatronun temel kavramlarından biridir. Jestten farklı olarak gestus, oyundaki karakterlerin bireysel ifadelerini yansıtmaz; yaratıcı ekip tarafından oyunun toplumsal olana dair söylem geliştirmesine yönelik bir bilinçle oluşturulur. Gestusların oluşumunda önemli unsurlardan birisi müziklerdir. Epik tiyatronun biçimsel yapısı ve ideolojik yaklaşımıyla uyumlu olan bu müziğe gestus müziği adı verilir. Literatür taraması yoluyla toplanan verilerin betimsel içerik analizine tabi tutulmasıyla oluşturulan bu makalede, tiyatro ve müziğin kesiştiği noktada duran gestus müziğine dair temel bilgiler, Brecht’in verdiği örneklerden ve ona ait epik oyunlarda kullanılan müziklerden yola çıkılarak elde edilmiştir. Sonuçta, gestus müziğinin, ortodoks tiyatro müziğinden işlevsel açıdan ve sahnedeki eylemle kurduğu karşıt ilişki bakımından farklı olduğu, epizodik yapıyı oluşturmak için oyunu parçaladığı ve ideolojik iletileri aktarmak için kullanıldığı tespit edilmiş, ayrıca gestus müziğinin sınırları ve epik tiyatrodaki yeri belirlenmiştir.

Abstract

Gestus is one of the basic concepts of epic theatre theorized by Bertolt Brecht (1898-1956). Unlike gesture, gestus does not reflect the individual expressions of the characters in the play, it is created by the creative team with an awareness to develop a social discourse of the play. Music is one of the key elements in the formation of Gestus. This music, which is compatible with the formal structure and ideological approach of epic theater, is called gestic music. In this review (compilation) type of article created with the literature review method, the basic data on gestic music, which stands at the intersection of theater and music, were obtained from the examples given by Brecht and the music used in his epic plays. As a result, it has been determined that gestic music is different from the orthodox theater music in terms of its functional and oppositional relationship with the action on the stage, it breaks up the play to create the episodic structure and is used to convey ideological messages.
