Abstract
Industrialization of cinema as a field of cultural production and ideological reproduction necessitates revealing complicated and intricate relations of processes of movie production, distribution and consumption. This study problematizes tendencies of monopolization in cinema industry in the context of production, distribution and consumption, opening up a discussion on the political economy of Turkish cinema industry. For this purpose, contents of movies are briefly mentioned, and the data related to the production, distribution and consumption processes of these movies produced in 2016 are examined in the light of the theoretical framework of the study. In the study, document analysis technique is utilized in the context of qualitative analysis method. The findings show that despite the fact that the most watched films of the year are local productions from 2005 to 2016, the movies are standardized popular/ commercial films, which thus stands for the industrialization of the content. Especially in the distribution and screening process, it is possible to make a comment that certain companies tend to monopolize in Turkish cinema industry.
