Abstract
The maximization of the unit total exergy output, of roof-mounted PVT panels, which is the sum of net electrical power and thermal power outputs per unit roof are is desired. However, these two different power outputs with quite different unit exergy are in conflict. For example, when the flow rate of the coolant fluid is increased PV cells are effectively cooled with minimum efficiency decrease but at the same time, the temperature of the heat obtained decreases, which leads to a low exergy fluid with little use. In order to avoid this problem a second temperature peaking solar collector may be installed but this time the total exergy output per unit roof area decreases. In this study two similar PVT units installed side-by-side are considered. The second panel serves for temperature peaking with different piping circuitry and layout in the panel and generates moderate power, because its primary objective is to peak the coolant temperature. This paper introduces a new model, which is developed for optimizing the load share between the two panels for maximum total exergy output and demonstrates its use and benefits
