Abstract

The impinging jet technique is a high performance cooling technology to increase heat transfer in thermal devices. In this study, the cooling of the copper plate surfaces having two different patterns with roof and reverse trapezoid shapes at different jet inlet widths with a single air jet flow has been numerically investigated in rectangular ducts. Numerical calculations have been carried out by solving the energy and Navier-Stokes equations in three dimensions, steady, using the Ansys-Fluent computer program with k-ε turbulence model. The upper and lower surfaces of the channels are adiabatic and constant heat flux has been applied to the patterned surfaces. While the Re number range determined for the study is 5000-11000, the distance between jet and plate (H/ Dh ) is 3 and 6. Jet entrance widths are 0,5 Dh and Dh . The results of the study have been compared with the numerical and experimental results of the study in the literature and it has been found that they are compatible with each other. The results have been presented as the average Nu number and variation of surface temperature for each patterned surface. The streamline and temperature contour distributions of the jet flow along the channel have been evaluated for patterned surfaces at different jet entrance widths and H/Dh ratios. At 0,5 Dh jet width, H/Dh =6, it has been determined that the average Nu number value for Re=5000 has 25,92% more on the roof patterned surface than the reverse trapezoid patterned surface.
