Abstract

Turkey decided to be non‐belligerent in the Second World War although it was so close to enter the war many times because of her responsibilities and the possibility of being attacked, Turkey success‐fully implemented its decision. Governors tried to keep pace with shifting war conditions, followed a very careful policy and sometimes even chose to set up strict rules. Under these circumstances, during the war time, the government also took a grip on the press and pushed newspapers to pub‐lish in compliance with its policy. Time to time the government intervened the press for several reasons in order not to strand its allies or to put its foreign policy in order and even sometimes not to worry the society under the changing war time conditions.
