Abstract
Apart from the functions of developing the reading practice and entertaining while reading in the free time, the children’s periodicals of the Constitutionalist Period are known to have taken on important and educational tasks in relation to instilling the young population of the period with certain national and moral values and transferring those values to them. It is seen that the patriotism concept, the most important one of the mentioned values, is told around the discourses of valuing the country and the nation above all kinds of values, working for the country and fighting at the front for the country and if necessary, dying for this cause and being martyred. In order to increase the value of martyrdom degree in the children’s eyes and reinforce its importance, the martyrdom‐themed literary works and especially the poems have an important place in the children’s periodicals of that period. My study includes the reflection of martyrdom of the sirs Fethi, Sadık and Nuri, who were the first aviation martyrs of the Ottoman Empire, on the children’s periodicals of the Constitutionalist Period and the examination of the poems written for the martyrs in terms of the content.
