Abstract

Although a plenty of dye plants that have the features of dyestuff grow wildly in our country, the people who deal with weaving know much less about them and use them much less in weaving. The main goal of this study has been to present an alternative to dyestuff that is known and used in our country and this sense, cornflower (Centaurea polyclada DC.) plant has been experienced in naturel dyeing for the first time. There are totally 117 sorts of cornflower (cetaurea sp.) species, whose 109 items (%61.6) are endemic in Turkey. Centaurea polyclada DC. is regarded as a sort that is very rarely found peculiar to Turkey. In the research, cornflower (Centaurea polyclada DC.) plant, hand-spinning looped wool carpet fibers obtained from the sheep in the area of Ayvacık (Çanakkale) and some mordants have been used. According to the weight of wool carpet fibers, cornflower (Centaurea polyclada DC.) plant in the ratio of 100, 200, 300 percent, alum in the ratio of 20 percent and copper sulphate in the ratio of 10.65 percent have been used and ten different of dyeing experiments have been carried out. The light fastness of the colours obtained are generally medium and low and their washing fastness is medium and better.
