Abstract

In this work, samples of Fe-5 % V and Fe-15 % V alloys were first cold worked by 50 % and then annealed in an oxygen-free condition at 560, 570, 580 and 590 °C respectively. Kinetics of recrystallization and microstructural features were investigated. It was noticed that compared to Fe-5 % V alloy, alloy of Fe-15 % V recrystallized rapidly. This was due to selective accumulation of excess vanadium along grain boundaries. It was also verified that increase in vanadium content did not influence the value of hardness, where the strength of the cold worked material diminished gradually during recovery before the on set of recrystallization.
