An Assessment About Puzantion Newspaper On The Basis Of Archive Records (1896-1918)

Özet

Püzantiyon Gazetesi 1896-1918 yılları arasında neşrolunmuştur. Gazete; Jamanak, Masis, Punç ve Arevelk gibi dönemin Ermenice süreli yayınları arasında önemli bir yere sahiptir. Gazetede, muhtelif mahallerde Ermenilerin katledildiğine dair iddialar, vergi hususunda yapılan baskılar ve 1909 Adana Olayları gibi pek çok farklı konuda yazı yayımlanmıştır. Bu yazılar Osmanlı memurlarınca takip edilmiş, gerekli görüldüğünde incelemeye alınmıştır. II. Meşrutiyet'in ilanı ile birlikte basında geniş bir özgürlük ortamı oluşmuş, bu ortamda gazetenin etkisi artmıştır. Fakat bu özgürlük coşkusu uzun sürmemiş, basın yeniden kontrol altına alınmıştır. Püzantiyon Gazetesi de bundan nasibini almış ve "muzır" yayın yaptığı gerekçesiyle 10 Haziran 1909 tarihinde faaliyeti durdurulmuştur. Bir süre sonra tekrar faaliyete geçtiği görülen gazetenin yazarları 24 Nisan 1915 olaylarının ardından ciddi sıkıntılarla karşılaşmış, hatta imtiyaz sahibi Püzant Keçyan yurtdışına kaçmak zorunda kalmıştır. Nihayetinde gazete, son sayısını 1918 yılında çıkarmış ve böylelikle yayın hayatı sona ermiştir. Bu çalışmada Püzantiyon Gazetesi ve gazetede çıkan yazıların yankıları arşiv belgeleri temelinde ele alınacaktır

Abstract

Puzantion Newspaper was getting published between the years of 1896-1918. Among the periodicals of that time such as Jamanak, Masis, Punch and Arevelk, Puzantion had a rather important position. Many different articles were published on allegations about Massacre of the Armenians in various places, the pressures on the tax issue and 1909 Adana Events. The Ottoman officials researched these articles and when in need, they started investigations upon them. Media was granted a great freedom as a result of the proclamation of the 2nd Constitutional Monarchy and Puzantion was able to increase its influence within that climate. But this enthusiasm for freedom did not last long, the press was taken under the control again. Puzantion Newspaper was also affected by this and the newspaper was suspended because of the malicious publication on June 10, 1909. The authors of the newspaper, which was appeared to active again after a while, encountered serious troubles after the events of 24 April 1915. The concession holder of the newspaper, Puzant Kechian even had to flee abroad. In conclusion, the newspaper published its final issue and terminated its publication life in 1918. In this study, the focus will be upon Puzantion Newspaper and the echoes of the published articles in the newspaper based on the archival documents
