Özet
Fatih Sultan Mehmed, Osmanlı Devleti'nin en önemli padişahlarındandır. Roma İmparatorluğu'nun başkenti olan Konstantinopolis'i (İstanbul) almıştır. Bundan sonra da fetihlerine devam etmiştir. Son seferi sırasında, kırk dokuz yaşında vefat etmiştir. Fatih Sultan Mehmed zehirlendi mi yoksa hastalıklarının neticesinde mi öldü sorusunun yanıtı yüzyıllardır tartışılmaktadır. Kendisine zehirle öldürme girişiminin birçok kez yapıldığı bilinmektedir. Fatih Sultan Mehmed'in sağlık durumu incelendiğinde kendisinde gut hastalığı ve diabetes mellitusun (Şeker hastalığı) bulunduğunu gösteren bulgular vardır. Bu araştırmada tarih ve tıp bilimcileri birlikte konuyu ele almışlardır. Yapılan değerlendirme sonucunda Fatih Sultan Mehmed'in büyük bir olasılıkla gut ve diabetes mellitusun komplikasyonları nedeniyle öldüğü ileri sürülmüştür
