Abstract

Retroperitoneal tumors, especially sarcomas, are seen very rarely. The most common histological subtype is liposarcoma. It is rather difficult to diagnose the tumor since it does not become symptomatic until reaching a certain size. Often, it reaches diameters greater than 10 cm and requires aggressive surgical approach due to invasion of tissues. The optimal treatment is resection even in recurrent cases, and assuring negative surgical margin is the primary objective. Systematic chemotherapy and radiotherapy are often used for palliative purposes and no survival advantages are suggested. In this paper, we aimed to report a case diagnosed with retroperitoneal liposarcoma, 16-cm in diameter, and to give an overview of the literature on these rarely seen tumors.
