Abstract

The tifect of Tissupor (TP) wound pad on wound heeding was compared to thai of a commonly used 10 % povidon iodine antiseptic solution. Two full-thickness skin defects, 3 cm in diameter, were created bilaterally on the costal regions of I0 rabbits. While the defect on the left side was treated with TP with changes every 3 days, the one on the right side was treated with 10 % povidon iodine solution (control). The dressings were changed in every 2 days until epithelializatiou. Wound surfaces were niacroscopically examined during the postoperative period. Biopsy specimens collected on the $3^{rd},6^{th},9^{th}and12^{th}$ days post-incision were evaluated for histopathologieal changes. Specimens were scored for fibroblast proliferation, edema, inflammatory cells, and vascular proliferation. The number of days needed for epithelialization was significantly (p<0.001) reduced in the TP group (8.70 ± 0.47 dnvs) compared with control group (13.50 i 0.56 days). On days 6, 9, and 12, there ira.y significant increase in granulation tissue in TP applied tissues composed of capillary vessels and proliferation of fibroblast. In summary, TP application to full-iliiekness skin defects in rabbits accelerated wound healing. As a result, ur think that this method could be quite advantageous for the treatment of wounds because it either shortens the duration of wound healing, or decreases the total number of wound dressing changes.
