Özet

Bu araştırma, uzun dönem devamlı oturarak çalışmanın, serum prostat spesifik antijen (PSA) düzeyi üzerindeki etkisini incelemek amacıyla yapıldı. Yaşları 45'in altında (ortalama, 37.7 yıl), günlük çalışma süresi en az 8 saat ve 3 haftadan fazla oturarak çalışan 50 otobüs şöföründeki serum PSA düzeyleri yine aynı yaş grubu ve yaş ortalamasında (37.7 yıl) ve genellikle ayakta çalışan 50 sağlıklı cerrahın PSA düzeyleriyle karşılaştırıldı. Çalışma grubundaki PSA düzeyleriyle (ortalama, 1.211+ -0.96ng/ml) kontrol gurubundaki düzeyler (ortalama, 1.214± -0.74 ng/ml) arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı fark saptanmadı (p> 0.05). İlk ölçümde yaşa göre olması gereken 2.5 ng/ml PSA değerinin üzerinde PSA düzeyi saptanan olguların tümünde 5 günlük dinlenme sonrasın-da PSA değerleri normale döndü. Sonuç olarak, uzun dönem devamlı oturarak çalışmanın serum PSA düzeyini etkilemediği, ancak PSA'nın yüksek bulunduğu olgularda en az 5 günlük dinlenmeyi izleyerek tetkikin yinelenme-sinin klinik uygulama açısından yararlı olabileceği düşünülmüştür.

Abstract

The Effect of Long Term Sitting on Serum Prostate Specific Antigen Levels- The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of long term sitting on serum prostate specific antigen (PSA) levels. Serum PSA levels of 50 bus drivers under the age of45 (mean, 37.7 years) who worked at least 8 hours a day for more than 3 weeks were compared to those of 50 healthy surgeons in similar age groups (mean, 37.7 years) who spent most of their working time standing. There was no statistically significant difference between the mean PSA level of the study group (1.211± -0.96 ng/ml) and that of the control group (1.214+ -0.74 ng/ml) (p> 0.05). The PSA levels returned to normal after a 5-day resting period in cases who had greater values than the ancipated level of 2.5 ng/ml for this age group at the initial determination. These results suggested that there was no relationship between long term sitting and the serum PSA levels. A second PSA determination after a 5-day resting period may be helpful in cases with higher than normal initial values.
