Abstract
The Correlation Between Prostate-Specific Antigen Density And International Prostate Symptom Score And Urine Flow Rates In Cases With Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia- Objective: To investigate the change in prostate-specific antigen density (PSAD) with age and the correlation between PSAD and subjective symptoms and objective findings. Patients and Methods: International prostate symptom scores (IPSS) and urine flow rates of'305 patients hospitalized for symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia were determined. The PSAD values were calculated by dividing serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) values by corresponding prostate volumes as determined by transrectal ultrasonography (TRUS). These parameters were stratified into 10 year age groups and the differences among the groups were investigated. The correlation between PSAD and IPSS and urine flow rates were also evaluated. Results: We did not note any significant difference between age groups with respect to IPSS and urine flow rates. Prostate volumes and PSA values differed significantly in each successive age group. However, this was not the case for PSAD. We did not note any significant correlation between PSAD and IPSS and urine flow rates. Conclusion: PSAD cannot be used to predict the severity of symptoms related to BPH.
