Abstract

The quoted companies in the European Unioun have applied International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) compulsorily since 1 January 2005. These standards serve the accounting for complex transactions, which occur in big companies. However, application of these standards by the Small and Medium-sized Entities is very costly and difficult. The Exposure Draft of International Financial Reporting Standard for SMEs (IFRS for SMEs) which is published for public comment by the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) forms the fundamental topic of this study. In this study, the main features of the IFRS for SMEs and the likely scope of the standards in Turkey are investigated. Furthermore, the effects of the standards on accounting applications of Turkish companies, which are in the scope of these standards, are examined.
