Abstract

Absence and existence anxiety are two anxiety situations that a person will encounter throughout his/her life. Anxiety of absence is accompanied by sensations of engulfment, fi nitude, and mortality. Presence anxiety arises when the person realizes that what he/she rejects is his/her own. At such times, the person feels anxious to become what they reject. These anxieties make themselves visible in poetic discourse in the unwanted, rejected, obstacles, opposing structures and resistances. For example, in Necatigil’s “Bu kaygılı günlerimde bir zaman / Sana görünmemeyi yerinde buluyorum”, the clues of the reason for the anxiety that work unconsciously are shown. That is, the poet consciously does not want to appear to someone important to him in his anxious days. At this point, the act of invisible is a result and anxiety is the cause. In fact, unconscious anxiety develops in the opposite direction. Unconscious anxiety is seen on obstacles, not on what goes on the way. Therefore, in Necatigil’s poetry, the separation of the poet from what is important to him is not due to anxiety. In fact, it is the poet’s feeling of the closeness of the person he tries to keep himself/herself away that brings out the anxiety. At this point the poet does not turn away from him/her out of anxiety. The reason why he moves away from him/her is that the closeness of the person who is important to him/her actually reveals anxiety. Undoubtedly, because such a mechanism operates unconsciously, the poet is in a state of ignorance, as Freud gave in his defi nition of the unconscious. In other words, he knows his own anxiety but cannot make a comment about the cause of this anxiety, he only imagines his sensation
