Abstract
Offenbach's opera bouffe, La Belle Hélène is a parody of Helen's abduction by Paris which was the cause of the Trojan Wars. La Belle Hélène was staged in İstanbul in 1869, just a few years after it was staged in Paris in 1864. Only Niyazi Akı mentioned the Turkish text of the play, but somehow it did not draw the attention of the scholars and the sole copy of the text remained untouched. This article deals with the only copy existing in the National Library, Ankara, discusses the probable translator Takvor Nalyan, the critical reception and the influence of the work.
