Abstract
In geothermal fields, the removal of the used thermal water is a major problem. The most common way in our co-untry is discharging the geothermal water in to the river. In the Afyon city, the geothermal energy is used for the heating, and discharged to the Akarçay stream after utilization, which causes quality degradation of the surface water. Due to environmental impacts, the re-injection of the used hot water back to the geothermal reservoir becomes the most appropriate method of the removal. In addition, re-injection is a good way to prevent the pressure of the reservoir. However, the selection of the location and depth of re-injection wells is also an important parameter. Thus, this study aims to estimate the consequences of the re-injection applications to the wells has different depth on the aquifer system by modeling the temperature and pressure distribution with the HST3D. In this field, re-injection test were carried out in five wells, according to the test results, AF-4 and AF-22 wells were determined to the best wells for re-injection by MTA. AF-4, AF-22 and an imaginary well named Reen (700-800 m depth) have been used for re-injection purpose in the model. The model results indicates that the re-injecting of the hot water to the depth of the 700-800 m for 20 years, has no negative effect on the thermal aquifer dynamics, on the contrary, prevents the temperature decline in the system.
