Abstract

The asymmetric crying face is an anomaly resulting from unilateral agenesis or hypoplasia of the congenital depressor angular oris muscle. The most important finding of the disease is the absence or weakness in the outer and lower movement of the commissure during crying. Symptoms may also be present in the neonatal period. It may be an isolated anomaly or associated with other congenital anomalies. In the literature, the most common cardiovascular anomalies and chromosomal disorders have been reported. It is diagnosed by physical examination and very rarely electromyelographic examination is required. In this paper, we present a one day old male patient with asymmetric crying facies not accompanied with anomalies in other systems. In such cases, although a comprehensive examination for early diagnosis and treatment is often required, diagnosis can often be made simply with physical examination.
