Abstract

Introduction: This study was carried out in order to research the consultations required for the individuals treated in ASATC service of a university hospital between the years of 2014 and 2018. Materials and Method: The study designed as retrospective, descriptive, and cross-sectional was carried out by examining the file records of 614 (59 female and 555 males) consultation-requested patients of the patients (N=1392) hospitalized for treatment in ASATC service of the psychiatry clinic of a university hospital between the years of 2014 and 2018. In the study, socio-demographic attributes and consultation requests of the individuals were evaluated by 12 questions. For data analysis, number-percentage distribution, mean and standard deviation were used. Results: While 63.7% of the addicted individuals included in the research was alcohol addict and 12.7% of them was polysubstance addict, their age average was 40.87±13.85. It was determined that consultations were requested 1.49±0.70 times and 41.4% of the addicted individuals from internal medicine, 22.9% of them from dentistry, 18.1% of them from dermatology, and 13.6% of them from neurology because of medical problems. In the cases included in the scope of the research, decay tootth (22.8%), skin rash (16.0%), infection (13.5%), liver function test (12.2%), asthma-COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) (10.7%), hypertension (7.2%), and neuropathy (6.5%) were determined as the most frequently stated consultation request reasons. It was determined that at least one medicine was prescribed for 57.0% of the cases after consultation. Conclusion: Holistic assessment and monitoring the physical and mental comorbidity of the patients having substance use disorder is extremely important for recuperation and maintaining the health. It is necessary that the patients should be carefully evaluated and the health care should be cooperatively and holistically planned by the mental health care team.
