Evaluations of clinic, radiographic and postmortem findings of canine tracheas surrounded with: 2. ring polypropylene prosthesis (RPP)

Özet
Bu çalışmada, özel olarak hazırlanmış ring (yüzük) şeklinde polipropilen bir protezin, spiral ve diğer bildirilmiş metodlara olan üstünlükleri değerlendirildi. Oniki yerli köpek operasyona alındı ve bunlar operasyondan sonra rastgele kısa (10 günlük) ve uzun (3 aylık) süreli iki gruba eşit olarak ayrıldılar. Ring protezlerinin köpek servikal trakea'ları üzerine olan klinik, radyografik ve postmortem etkileri incelendi. Çalışmada gözlenen önemli postoperatif problemler yangı (% 66.7), klinik (% 33.3) ve subklinik (% 66.7) şişkinlik ile öksürük (33.3 %) olduğu saptandı. Yapılan radyografik incelemelerde köpeklerin trakeal lumenlerinde % 0-46.7 (ortalama % 12.5) arasında değişen daralmaların olduğu ve en fazla daralmaya sahip bir köpekte solunum güçlüğüyle ilgili bir belirtiye rastlanmadığı gözlendi. Ses kısıklığıyla birlikte dyspne belirtileri gösteren bir olgunun trakeasmda % 16.7 oranında bir daralmanın olduğu saptandı. Sonuç olarak, ring şeklinde polipropilen protezlerin, hayvanların başlarını serbestçe etrafa hareket ettirebilecekleri kadar esnek ve etrafındaki bağdokunun sıkıştırıcı gücünü etkin bir şekilde dengeleyerek trakea lumenini normal poziyonda tutacak kadar sert özelliklere sahip olduğu kanısına varıldı.
Abstract
In this study, the advantages of a specially designed RPP over the spiral and other reported prostheses were evaluated. Twelve native healthy dogs underwent the surgery, which were postoperatively divided equally into a short term (10 days) group (SG) and long term (3 months) groups (LG). Clinic, radiographie and post-mortem findings of the effects of RPP on the canine cervical tracheas were observed. Common postoperative complications found in the current study were mild inflammation (66.7 %), clinic (33.3 %) and subclinic (66.7 %) swelling, and intermittent type cough (33.3 %). Radiographie examination showed that the diameters of the trachéal lumens in these dogs reduced between 0-46.7 % (median 12.5 %) and the dog with highest trachéal stenosis presented no sign of dyspnoea. This complication which was associated with voice restriction was found in a dog (8.3 %) with 16.7 % of a trachea! stenosis. In conclusion, RPP was found to be flexible enough to allow the animals to move their neck freely and rigid enough to balance compressive forces of the surrounding adventitial connective tissues so thatto keep the tracheas sufficiently in an expanded position.
