Özet

Noninvazif mekanik ventilasyon (NIV), akut solunum yetmezliği tedavisinde oldukça yaygın kullanılan bir yöntemdir. İnvazif mekanik ventilasyona göre daha güvenilir olduğu belirtilse de, NIV uygulaması sırasında da bazı ciddi komplikasyonlar görülebilmektedir. Bu makalede, akut astım atağına bağlı solunum yetmezliği nedeniyle NIV uygulanan bir olguda gelişen mediastinal amfizem ve pnömotoraksı bildirmeyi ve uygulama sırasında basınç düzeylerinin önemine dikkat çekmeyi amaçladık.

Abstract

Noninvasive ventilation (NIV) is a widely used method in the management of acute respiratory failure. Although it is reported to be safer than invasive mechanical ventilation, serious complications can occur during the application of NIV. In this article, we aimed to emphasize the importance of pressure levels by reporting a case who developed mediastinal emphysema and pneumothorax under NIV application for the management of respiratory failure due to acute asthma attack.
