Abstract

Job insecurity, which is one of the most important problems of today’s working life, is an important threat to the continuation of the job that the individual has. Job search behavior is the search for existing employment opportunities. This study aiming to determine the relationship between job insecurity and job search behavior; was conducted with 625 people face to face, determined by random sampling, employed in service sector in Istanbul and Kocaeli. While the scale describing the job insecurity developed by Hellgren, Sverke and Isaakson with the dimensions of quantitative and qualitative job insecurity was used to measure job insecurity; Blau’s scale, developed from the Blau model, was used in the scale of job search behavior. Analyzes were conducted to determine whether job insecurity and job search behavior differed according to demographic variables and to determine the relationship between job insecurity and job search behavior. The analysis of whether the job insecurity perception is related to job search behavior revealed a positive relationship between these variables, but found that this relationship was weak. In short, it has been determined that the job insecurity perception does not reflect job search behavior at the same level.
