Abstract
Objective: The objective of the present study is to assess the frequency of use of mobile health practices by physicians and students of medicine, areas where it is used, and opinions about mobile health practices. Materials and method: This cross-sectional survey was conducted at Afyonkarahisar province centre in the period July-December 2016. The survey covered 422 physicians and 839 students of medicine. The questionnaire applied to respondents contained questions related to socio-demographic characteristics and mobile health practices, and some judgements on advantages and disadvantages of mobile health practices. Descriptive statistics, chisquare test and, for independent groups, t-test were used in data analysis. Findings: The frequency of use of mobile health practices is by 28.1% in students of medicine and by 35.5% in physicians (p=0.007). It was observed that 16.1% of students and 16.8% of physicians suggest mobile health practices to their patients. The mobile health practice most frequently used by students of medicine is “health information systems” (12.9%) while it is “diagnosis providing reference information for clinic services and personspecific health service providers” for physicians (26.5%). Evaluating the average of points obtained from judgements concerning advantages and disadvantages of mobile health practices, students got highest scores from advantages of the practice while physicians scored the highest in its disadvantages. Conclusion: The survey found that relative to other types of work, the frequency of using mobile health practices is low in both students and physicians. Given that physicians in particular focus on disadvantages, it will be appropriate to introduce legislative arrangements in this issue
