Aim: The word "metaphor" had been originally derived from the Greek word "metaphora", which means "to take from one place to another". The term "metaphor" means, "to explain something with a more understandable one" in Turkish and has been subject to studies in several fields, particularly in education. In this study, it was aimed to reveal the metaphors for "doctor" concept among the first-year students of Hacettepe University Medical School. Method: The raw data were obtained by asking the participants to fill in the blanks in the sentence "Doctor is like ..., because ... ". These data were analysed using qualitative techniques. Findings: According to the findings of the research, the participants produced a total of 248 acceptable metaphors for "doctor" concept. These metaphors were classified under five distinct conceptual categories with respect to their common characteristics. These conceptual categories didn't differ significantly with regard to the regions where students live in and the presence of physicians in the family or close circle.
