Abstract
In osteoarthritis (OA), the viscoelasticity of the synovia! fluid and the joint tissues is much lower than in the normal joint. This is because the concentration of hyaluronan molecules that provide the viscoelasticity of the fluid and tissues are less than normalin O A. In this study, effectiviness ofhyaluronate in patients with osteoarthritic knee was investigated. 30 female patients (average age 52,1 ±7,07years) matching the criteria of American College of Rheumatology (ACR) for both knee OA were taken into this study. Patients received 15 MGK/ ml NaHa injections once weekly for a duration of 2 weeks for both knees. All patients have been evaluated by standart 10 cm VAS (Visuel analog scale) and Lequesne index before and 4 andU weeks after the in¬jections. In conclusion, VAS and Lequesne index have been significantly improved with intraarticular hyaluronan injections and it has been concluded that injections was efficient and safe for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis.
