Populasyonun %80'i hayatlarının bir döneminde bel ağrısından yakınmaktadır.

Abstract

Low back pain is one of the major causes of functional disability and limitation of activity. This complaint ef¬fects 80% of the population at some point during their lifetime. The aim of this ra$ğgr$jg!gd, prospective study is to investigate the eff*|$[f$J3$/ etofenamate and tenoxicam in the treatment of.acute low back pain and to compare them. Patients with acute low back pain were included in the study. At the begining of the study, plain radiographs of the lumbosacral region andpelvis were taken to exclude specific pathology. Study population was randomized in two groups. Group A (10 F, 11 M)was treated with 1000 mg/day etofenamate i.m. for 5 days. Group B (13 F, 8 M) received 20 mg/day tenoxicam i.m. for 5 days. Pain severity was evaluated with visual analog scale (VAS, 0=no pain, 10= the worst pain) on day 0,1,8 and 15. The mean VAS score in group A was decreased sig¬nificantly on day 8 and 15 (VAS 0= 7.76+1.06, VAS 8= 3.87+2.03 ve VAS 15= 2.84+1.29). For group B, VAS score on day 0 was 6.76 + 1.26 and decreased to 3.12+1.49 on day 8 and 2.59+1.51 on day 15. The dif¬ference between VAS 0 and VAS 15 was statistically sig¬nificant in two groups (p<0.001). The distance from fingertip to floor also decreased significantly (p>0.05). The decrease in distance from fingertips to floor was not different statistically in two groups (p>0.005). In this study, we concluded that etofenamate and tenoxicam were efficacious in the treatment of acute low back pain. Clinical improvement and decrease of pain severity were not statistically different in two groups and no side effects were observed during the study.
