Abstract
Fibromyalgia (FM) is a chronic non-articular rheumatic disorder presenting with physical and psychological impairment and the treatment approaches are directed to these aspects. The aim of the study was to examine the effect of aerobic exercise programme for the treatment of FM syndrome. 11 female FM patients were participated. The mean age of the patients was 30.46±6.43 years and the mean duration of the symptoms was 39.4± 18.35 months. All patients underwent an examination of isokinetic muscle strength on Cybex dynamometer and submaximal aerobic performance test (PWC-170). The patients attended to aerobic exercises for 45 minutes 3 times a week, for 8 weeks, as a treatment programme. At the end of 8 weeks, muscle performance, isokinetic tests and complete physical examination were repeated. There was a significant difference between pre and posttreatment scores of peak torque and PWC-170 tests. Also the number of symptoms and pain score were lower after the treatment programme. These results indicate that aerobic exercise induce positive effects on FM patients.
