Abstract

This study was performed to investigate the effectivenes of physical therapy programme on 30 patients with lumbar facet syndrome that were diagnosed according to clinical findings and computed tomography. Before the study, all the patients were given standart medical therapy. And then the patients were randomly selected to two groups. Twenty physical therapy sessions were applied to the first group and the second group was taken as the control group. At the end of the therapy, in the first group there were significant improvements in the pain score, paraspinal tenderness and scorecard scoring system (p<0.001) and also less significant improvement in lomber Schoeber and double araising test (p <0.05). In the second group, there were significant improvements in the pain score and paraspinal tendemes (p<0.05). But there was not any significant improvement in the other parameters (p>0.05). At the end of the therapy, the first group had better results than the second group in all parameters (p<0.05). It was concluded that medical therapy is useful in the lumbar facet syndrome but must be supported with physical therapy and rehabilitation programme.
