Economic Factors in International Security: The Effectiveness in the Regional Economic Integrations of Turkey, and Its Contribution to the Regional Peace

Özet

Bu makalede Türkiye'nin bölgesel ekonomik entegrasyonlarla olan ilişkisinin bölge barışına olan etkisi incelenmektedir. Bu kapsamda özellikle Avrupa Birliği (AB), Karadeniz Ekonomik işbirliği (KEl) ve Ekonomik işbirliği (ECO) hareketleri vasıtasıyla Türkiye'nin bu örgütlerde yer alan bölge ülkeleriyle olan ilişkileri gözden geçirilerek, bu entegrasyonel organizasyonları bir staratejik araç olarak bölge refah ve istikrarının sağlanmasına yönelik ne ölçüde kullanabildiği değerlendirilmektedir. Bu çalışmada önce uluslararası güvenlikte ekonomik faktörlerin artan önemi vurgulanmaktadır. Sonra bölgesel ekonomik entegrasyonların ekonomik ve siyasi karşılıklı bağımlılıkla olan ilişkisine temas edilmektedir. Daha sonra ise, Türkiye'nin dahil olduğu AB, KEİ ve ECO gibi bölgesel entegrasyonların, bölge refah ve güvenliğine olan bakan yönü ile Türkiye'nin bu çerçevedeki rolü ele alınmaktadır.

Abstract

This article investigates the impact of Turkey's relations with regional economic integrations on the regional peace. In this framework, through the European Union (EU), the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) and the Economic Cooperation Organization movements the relations of Turkey with the countries which take place in these organizations are revised, and to what extent how these organizations as a strategic means towards regional prosperity and stability can be used are assessed. In this article, the first focus is the increasing importance of economic factors in international security. Secondly, the relationship between regional economic integrations and economic and political interdependence is examined. Then, the aspect of regional integrations, namely the EU, the BSEC and ECO to which Turkey belong, concerned with regional prosperity and stability together with the role of Turkey in this context are set forth.
