Abstract

The aim of the current study is to investigate the effect of “Stress Management Training” which is developed and applied by the researchers, on stress symptoms and perceived problem solving ability of the police officers. An experimental (pretest-posttest-control group) design was used in the study. The sample of the research consists of 20 police officers who work in Rize Police Department and Rize Vocational High School and volunteered to participate in the program. Participants were randomly a ssigned to training and control groups. Program was implemented to the experimental group over a period of six sessions. The Data were gathered using Information Form, Stress Self-Assessment Checklist and Problem Solving Inventory. To test the difference between pre-test and post-test scores of the experimental group, Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test; to test the difference between post-test scores of the experimental and control groups, Mann -Whitney U Test were used. In conclusion, no significant difference was found between the experimental and control group in terms of stress symptoms and perceived problem solving ability. Results of the study were discussed in the light of the related literature.
