THE ROLE OF TURKISH CINEMA IN ARCHITECTURAL DOCUMENTATION: THE ANALYSIS OF TARABYA HOTEL

Özet

Türkiye’de iç mekânların kurgusunun belgelenme eksikliği nedeniyle gizemini koruduğu söylenebilir. İç mekân tasarımlarına ilişkin verinin yetersiz oluşu, farklı araştırma yöntemlerine başvurulmasını gerektirir. Bu yöntemlerden biri de 1960-1975 aralığında, iç mekânları -neredeyse- olduğu gibi kullanan Türk Sinemasıdır. Türk Sinemasında sıklıkla tercih edilen gerçek mekânlardan biri de otellerdir. Bu çalışma kapsamında ise, pek çok filmde yer almış olan Kadri Eroğan tasarımı Tarabya Oteli öne çıkar. Otele ilişkin veriye rastlanmayışı, literatürde bir boşluk olduğunun kanıtı niteliğindedir. Literatüre katkıda bulunmak amacıyla, bu çalışma kapsamında, otelin iç mekân kurgusunun ve iç mekân elemanlarının analiz edilebilmesi için altı seçili filme yer verilmiştir. Günümüzde özgün iç mekân kurgusunu tamamen kaybetmiş olan yapının özgün iç mekânları, filmler üzerinden incelenmiş ve tasarlandığı dönemdeki dönemdaşları ile karşılaştırılmıştır. Ayrıca yapıdaki iç mekân elemanları da, yine benzer bir yaklaşımla, aynı dönemde popüler olan mobilya, aydınlatma elemanlarıyla karşılaştırılmıştır. Böylece, çalışmada, yapının iç mekânlarının karşılaştırmalı bir dille analiz edilmesi ve ayrıca yapının dönemdaşlarının vurgulanması amaçlanmıştır.

Abstract

Interior organization in Turkey has been mysterious due to the lack of documentation. Since the data related with interior design is not sufficient, there is a need to employ alternative research methods. One of these methods is Turkish Cinema which uses the interiors as they are between 1960 and 1975. The hotels are one of the most preferred spaces in Turkish films. In the context of this study, Tarabya Hotel - designed by Kadri Eroğan- that hosted Turkish cinema in many cases comes to the fore. Also, there is almost no data about the hotel which shows a gap in the field. In order to contribute to the literature, in the context of this study, six films are selected to analyze the interior organization and interior design elements of the hotel. The original interior spaces of the hotel which had lost the uniqueness now are analyzed through the selected films and these spaces are compared with their peers. Also, the elements which are held in the interiors are compared with the popular furniture and lighting fixtures of the era. Therefore, it is aimed to create an analysis of the hotel’s interiors through a comparative way and put emphasis on the peers of the building.
