Abstract

Architecture and cinema have been working together in the common denominator of the venue since the late 1890s. Architecture, which directly interferes with space, and cinema, which interprets it in its own fiction, work together, enabling both to create new spaces and to understand the relationship between people and space. Although the concept of space is the focal point of films in the art of cinema, films that can relate most to space have always been one-location movies due to the sharpness of their spatial boundaries. However, in order to observe these fictional spaces objectively, the films mentioned must have been created by a single director, using the same language. In this sense, there is not more than one-location movies produced by the same director in the national and international literature. This work focuses on the works of Turkish director Tevfik Başer, who has made a trilogy especially on limited space in the art of cinema, 40 m² Almanya (1986), Sahte Cennete Veda (1989) and Elveda Yabancı (1991), and also with the contribution of interviews with the director aims to complete. While these three films are examined spatially, the characters in the film spaces will be observed, and new inferences will be made on the relationship between people and space, as well as the perceptions that the space reveals in the person. In addition, it is thought that while examining these works of the director Tevfik Başer, who reflects the space perception of the individual on the screen by changing the spaces in his films in scale, it is thought to contribute to both the field of interior architecture and a national study
