Abstract
Both Arabic and Turkish languages have common heritage, namely the Arabic calligraphy which is one of the Islamic arts, where the Turkish people have contributed to developing and taking care of it. More specifically, the Turkish people have used the Arabic calligraphy in history, politics, literature, sciences, and daily lives because of both their religious motivation and love of Islam. However, the Arabic calligraphy has not attracted the desired interest while teaching the Arabic language at the Turkish educational institutions. Therefore, this study aims at addressing the adequacy of the Arabic calligraphy demonstrating its significance in teaching the Arabic language and acquiring it. Besides, this study aims at studying the goals of teaching the Arabic calligraphy in Arabic language teaching process. A set of criteria was established to be followed as guidelines in assessing and correcting the adequacy by the Turkish students. Another aim was to explore the difficulties which are faced by the Turkish students in learning the Arabic calligraphy. The study adopted the analytical descriptive approach to focus on the aims of teaching the Arabic calligraphy as a functional manual skill rather than studying it aesthetically and technically.
