Abstract

Questions about what justice is, how to differentiate between fair and unfair, and whether it is possible to build a fair society are at the center of liberal justice theories as well as on the agenda of ethical and political theories. In this study, we aimed to reconsider the issue of justice, which is an unidentified but widely discussed and debated concept, from the perspective of John Rawls and Robert Nozick, which came to the fore with liberal justice theories. This article will cover the justice theories of both thinkers who express their opinions under the liberal justice theory. We aimed to examine whether there are functional contributions to our understanding of justice by evaluating both thinkers' discourses about justice in terms of differences and similarities. For this purpose, it will be questioned whether both Rawls and Nozick's justice theories contribute to our quest to understand and make sense of justice. Our work will frame the article by briefly citing Rawls’ view of justice as fairness and Nozick's empowerment theory, presenting a comparison of the viewers' justice. Our work will briefly cover Rawls' view of justice as fairness and Nozick's theory of justice, which highlights the individual's freedom and rights, will frame the article by presenting a comparison of the views of justice of both thinkers.
