Abstract
Aspirin is the most widely consumed drug in medicine due to analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic effect. Aspirin is the irreversible inhibitor of the cyclooxygenase enzyme. This way it prevents the formation of TxA 2 which is the strong mediator of the platelet aggregation. At the basis of events such as the unstable angina pectoris, sudden cardiac death, acute MI or stroke, is the platelet activation which develops after plaque rupture. Aspirin use is fundamental in the secondary prevention of all cardiovascular disease, stroke and peripheric vascular disease. Aspirin resistance is responsible for the apperance of the acute coronary syndrome even though aspirin had been used.
