Abstract

Venous port catheters (VPC) are frequently used in cancer patients on whom long term intravenous treatment will be applied. These devices usually implanted via the subclavian vein or the jugular vein. VPCs have early and delayed complications such as pneumothorax, distal embolization, malposition, arrhythmia, catheter occlusion and infection. In our patient five months after implantation of the VPC, the catheter was separated from the connection point of the reservoir and embolized to the right atrium and right ventricle. The catheter in the right atrium was successfully removed through a percutaneous femoral vein approach using a loop snare (AndraSnare AS-20).
