Abstract
Purpose: To evaluate ciliary processes (CP) morphology with ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) after a single treatment of transscleral diode laser cyclophotocoagulation (TSDLC) and determine the relationship between post-laser intraocular pressure (IOP) and CP morphology. Material and Method: Sixteen eyes of 16 glaucoma patients underwent a single session of TSDLC (270°) for refractory glaucoma. Morphological changes of the CP were evaluated by means of UBM and were classified as normal or atrophic. Results: The mean pre-treatment IOP was 43.9 mmHg. In final examination, the mean IOP was 22 mmHg (p<0.001). There was no difference in the atrophy between the eyes showing an IOP greater than 21 mmHg and the eyes which had an IOP less than or equal to 21 mmHg (p>0.05). Conclusion: The results of this study suggested that cyclophotocoagulation with the diode laser may reduce IOP by mechanisms other than destruction of ciliary epithelium
