Abstract

Aim: To investigate the possible association between the plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) gene polymorphism and pseudoexfoliation (PEX) glaucoma. Material and Method: This study consisted of 78 patients with PEX glaucoma, and 100 controls. All participants underwent a complete ophthalmic examination. PAI-1 gene polymorphism was evaluated with the polymerase chain reaction method. Results: There was no statistically significant difference in patient and control groups for the age and sex. PAI-1 gene polymorphism did not show significant difference between the patients with PEX glaucoma. Conclusion: In this study, we could not find any association between PAI-1 4G/5G gene polymorphism and PEX glaucoma.
